During a program, Verizon launched its 5G services in Chicago and Minneapolis on Wednesday itself.

The 5G phone service - for a handful of celebrities including Yuna Kim, the Olympic medalist in figure skating, Baekhyun from k-pop boy band EXO - was launched Wednesday at 11 p.m. local time (10 a.m. EST).

Officials from carriers such as Deutsche Telekom AG and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. have visited South Korea to check out 5G tests, Yang said.

SK Telecom is working with its memory-chip making affiliate SK Hynix to build a highly digitised and connected factory powered by 5G technology, Mr. Ryu said. On Wednesday, Verizon of the U.S. said it launched the world's first 5G service. Users will get more data faster, with less delay.

While the competition over the publicity on 5G network is intense, mobile technology experts warn that the launch of 5G service is only a beginning.

The sales began two days after the world's first nationwide 5G network powered up in the East Asian country.

Erdogan Sees Win in Local Poll, but Loses Turkish Capital
Turkey's Supreme Election Council put the CHP on 4,159,650 votes, narrowly ahead of the AKP's 4,131,671. He also said that Turkey's economic woes were a result of attacks by enemies at home and overseas .

South Korea, the country with the fastest mobile internet has just kicked off the world's first 5G network.

As many other countries, including those in Europe, don't have functioning 5G networks yet, it is no surprise that the Galaxy S10 5G is only launching in selected regions, but as the 5G connectivity grows we'll likely see the handset available in other emerging markets as well.

The technology can offer data speeds that are 20 times faster than the current 4G long-term evolution or LTE networks and better support for artificial intelligence and virtual reality with low latency.

The new 5G technology enables dramatically faster download speeds with nearly no delay in watching videos or loading pictures.

It is expected to bring about $565 billion in global economic benefits by 2034, according to the London-based Global System for Mobile Communications, an industry alliance.

But South Korea's government says Korean companies launched their services for some customers before Verizon. "From now on, there is a full-blown fight", he said, adding South Korea should create a variety of services, content and devices to lead the market.
