Value Bets On Teams Other Than Duke — March Madness Futures

22 March 2019

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski of the Duke Blue Devils accepts the ACC Championship trophy after defeating the Florida State Seminoles 73-63 in the championship game of the 2019 Men's ACC Basketball Tournament at Spectrum Center on March 16, 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina. You can never tell what is going to happen.

We'll start with the East Region.

It's unsurprising that a team that produced Mason Plumlee as its best National Basketball Association player doesn't fare so well from a historical reckoning, and it's that level of talent that likely prompted Mike Krzyzewski to change course this decade towards a new kind of Duke team.

There's a lot of good teams that could make some noise like Michigan, Florida State, Texas Tech and Iowa State.

The Men's NCAA Tournament is underway, but the Blue Devils do not play until Friday night at approximately 7:10pm ET against North Dakota State from Columbia, South Carolina. If Gonzaga makes it to the Elite Eight, they could face arguably the weakest No. 2 seed in the bracket in MI.

While he doesn't see No. 1 Virginia fading a la previous year versus UMBC, he has Tennessee taking them out in the Elite 8.

I personally put no stock in culture, I believe it is just a recruiting tool to help push mom's and dad's over the edge when deciding where to send their son.

Venezuela Blackout Continues As US Diplomats Prepare To Leave
Guaido and the USA blame years of mismanagement and corruption for allowing the once-wealthy country's infrastructure crumble. Amid continuing unrest in Venezuela, the United States plans to remove all diplomatic personnel from the U.S.

Anyways, I don't think the Cavaliers will find a similar fate this March.

That game with the Badgers will be all about defense, with both teams among the leaders in scoring defense. Most SEC fans think the Gators were hosed in the league semi-finals in their loss to eventual champ Auburn and they likely were.

The Michigan Wolverines and the Tennessee Volunteers round out the President's Final Four. There will be games on all day, sometimes four or five at a time. North Carolina is the 1-seed with the worst shot to win its division. Or they will lose early and this whole column will look like a joke which would also be awesome so who cares, kick up your feet, stuff your face and enjoy some basketball. Tar Heels take three-of-four and the title. Kentucky does own a victory over UNC, but that was back in December, when the Tar Heels hadn't hit their full stride yet. For this list, we'll be looking at the four No. 1 seeds in this year's bracket. Those two teams have to be the favorites in this region and I see them facing off in the Elite Eight. The best team in their region is Michigan State, and I think they would easily win that game.

Rui Hachimura is one of the best scorers in the country and Brandon Clarke and Zack Norvell Jr. are more than capable threats around the star. The Bulldogs are the only team to beat a completely healthy Duke team this season. I see the Blue Devils getting their revenge on Gonzaga here.

With so many wagers coming down in favor of the Dukies, other contenders suddenly represent extreme values. Much like their matchup with Kentucky, a game with Tennessee is a very comparable matchup for North Carolina. With freshman guard Coby White coming into his own as a floor general, UNC is now unsafe enough in the half court to win close games in the later rounds. In a toss-up, I'll give this one to UNC.

This would be the fourth time the two squads have faced off and the third time since the beginning of March.

To tell you the truth I think that might be more games than the experts watch because there is no way anyone can actually watch all 64 of these teams to the extent that they know their tendencies and can accurately predict who they can and can't beat.
