Pakistan 'shoots down two Indian jets' over Kashmir

28 February 2019

The Pakistan military said Indian jets had entered Pakistan in response and two had been shot down, with one pilot captured.

"This was not a retaliation in a true sense, but to tell Pakistan has the capability, we can do it, but we want to be responsible, we don't want an escalation, we don't want a war", Pakistani spokesman Maj.

However, later in the day, an official from India's civil aviation regulator said flights to north Indian airports could immediately resume.

Pakistan shot down two Indian Air Force planes in its airspace in Kashmir on Wednesday, a military spokesman said, adding that one Indian pilot had been captured.

The Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan was summoned this afternoon by MEA to lodge a strong protest at the unprovoked act of aggression by Pakistan against India earlier today, including by violation of the Indian air space by Pakistan Air Force and targeting of Indian military posts. He says one of the planes crashed in Pakistan's part of Kashmir and the other went down in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The airstrike Tuesday was seen as a move to answer growing calls at home to punish Pakistan for not doing enough to stop Jaish-e-Muhammad - the terrorist group responsible for killing 40 Indian security personnel February 14 in a suicide attack in Pulwama, a district in Kashmir.

It was India's first air strike on Pakistani soil since the neighbours fought a war in 1971.

India shut down six airports near the conflict zone on Wednesday, including the main airport in Kashmir at Srinagar, while Pakistan shut down its airspace entirely and canceled all commercial flights.

The others in the top five also are premium marques: Volkswagen AG's Porsche and Audi, followed by Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus. The website also reports another new feature for Tesla - Sentry Mode. "We're setting an extremely high bar for Model 3".

"Due to airspace restrictions, flights to and from Amritsar, Srinagar, Chandigarh and Jammu are now on hold", Vistara said.

"It is unfortunate that instead of fulfilling its worldwide obligation and bilateral commitment to take credible action against terrorist entities and individuals operating from its soil, Pakistan has acted with aggression against India", the MEA stated.

The Pakistan Muslim league leader said he agrees that tensions are escalating between both nuclear nations.

Qatar Airways said in a statement it has temporarily suspended flights to eight cities in India and Pakistan "due to the ongoing situation on the India-Pakistan border" and that its flights routed over the India-Pakistan air space may be delayed due to rerouting in the area.

Following the incident, India on Tuesday bombed and destroyed JeM's biggest training camp in Balakot in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, about 80-km from the Line of Control (LoC) early Tuesday, killing a "very large number" of terrorists, trainers, and senior commanders.

"The officers of the Pakistani Army have looked after me well, they are thorough gentlemen", he said.

The situation was no different in villages along the Line of Control in Indian-controlled Kashmir, where residents were moving to safer places following the intense exchange of fire, which began Tuesday and continued Wednesday. The worldwide community led by the United States pressed Pakistan to deny safe haven to terror groups operating form its soil and bring the perpetrators of the Pulwama attack to justice.

"I also encouraged both ministers to prioritise direct communication and avoid further military activity", he said.
