Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that the U.S. Senate will vote on a "Green New Deal" introduced by Democrats that aims to slash U.S. carbon dioxide emissions to negligible levels in a decade.
Ocasio-Cortez and Markey's Green New Deal resolution-which calls for a "national mobilization" to transition to 100 percent renewable energy by 2030-has already garnered the support of 67 House Democrats and 11 senators, including major 2020 presidential contenders like Sens.
"The Republican leader announced he's going to bring up a resolution he intends to vote against", Schumer said on the Senate floor. They've offered a non-binding resolution meant to set the tone for legislation addressing climate change and economic inequality. Sherrod Brown, pointedly declined Tuesday to attach his name and dismissed liberal activists' contention that he has to support the Green New Deal in order to prove his commitment to the issue.
"I've noted with interest the "Green New Deal" and we're going to be voting on that in the Senate, we'll give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the 'Green Nw Deal, ' he stated".
Some Democrats hit back at the Republican attempt to call for a vote on the resolution before hearings and debates take place, calling it a "cynical" move. All of this would be more expensive than anything the United States has ever undertaken and would cripple our economy if the government were to just print the money for it, as proposed by Ocasio-Cortez when asked how to pay for it.
The resolution submitted to the House and Senate makes no mention of cows or air travel.

Asked whether the meeting could potentially be salvaged and re-staged, Thick added: "I think it's too early to say at this time". Only two events have cancelled the Cheltenham Festival in the past; the 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis, and the second World War.
Problems in the Democratic rollout of the proposal have further fueled the Republican attacks. The principles of the Green New Deal resonate with the American people - a mission to save all of creation by investing in massive job creation.
The Senate Majority Leader won't be unprepared for such a contest, however. "Ocasio-Cortez tried to claim over the weekend that the FAQ, sent to news outlets such as NPR and uploaded on her congressional website, is not really part of the Green New Deal's policy proposals". The ambitious proposal met a reality check Tuesday as California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared there "isn't a path" for completing a high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and San Francisco - although Newsom's office said later that he isn't walking away from the project.
"There's another victim of the Green New Deal, it's ice cream".
Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) said on Monday that the demand had become an "obstacle" to the talks, with a key group of negotiators meeting that day to try to resolve the stalemate. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), who chairs the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
