All week the Central Florida Astronomical Society has been celebrating Moon Week, and Sunday's culmination is this viewing party in honor of the SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON! He plans to attend an eclipse party at Hallock State Park Preserve on New York's Long Island.
Perhaps the most noteworthy heading is "Super Moon", a full or new moon that's within 90 percent of its closest approach to the Earth.
The science centre will be offering extended hours Sunday to ring in the total lunar eclipse, the first of its kind fully visible in Edmonton since 2015.
The blood moon comes overnight.
First, the moon will enter the penumbral phase, where it glides through Earth's outer - and much fainter - shadow.
If you can not make it outside, the Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter will stream the full lunar eclipse on its YouTube channel using one of its telescopes. At 11:41 PM Eastern Time, the eclipse will reach totality.
And you are encouraged to do it this month because this will be the last total lunar eclipse until May 26, 2021. The first total lunar eclipse to follow January 21's event will occur on May 26, 2021, and will be visible over the Pacific Ocean, with viewing possibilities in North America, South America and east Asia. A lunar eclipse occurs the moon passes directly behind the Earth, into its shadow. At 12:43 a.m. EST Monday (Jan. 21), the moon will poke itself out of the umbra and into the penumbra; and at 1:50 a.m. EST (10:50 p.m. PST, Jan. 20), it will have totally left the umbra. "As it passes through the atmosphere, just like when you see a sunset, the more blue light is scattered out and all you're left with is red".

Arik Armstead, who is set to enter his fifth season, had a solid season in the run game but did not offer much as a pass-rusher. He has previous experience as an offensive coordinator in the college ranks at Wagner, Northern Arizona and Millsaps.
During totality, the moon will look red because of sunlight scattering off Earth's atmosphere.
No equipment is needed to view the event, with the naked eye more than enough to watch the impressive celestial event. You can see the moon in the sky already during the afternoon and on Sunday the moon will rise around 15:30, so there isn't the dramatic rising from the horizon after dark sequence which generates the best Supermoon photos.
A lunar eclipse dips down behind the Wheeler Town Clock in Manitou Springs, Colo. early Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014.
If the skies are clear, the eclipse will be visible in North and South America, as well as Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Portugal along with the French and Spanish coasts. At 9 a.m., listen to an outdoor talk detailing the eclipse.
Previous year saw a "super blue moon" total lunar eclipse, but a mostly cloudy day made for a spotty view at best. For the next hour, the moon will dim slightly.
"That just has to do with how close the moon is to the Earth", he said. If you decide to head out, look up and check it out, make sure to dress warm. For the keen sky-watchers the lunar disk will appear a few percent larger and brighter than usual making it a lovely sight to soak in and a great photo opportunity.
