Elizabeth Warren makes big move toward 2020 presidential run

"Our government is supposed to work for all of us, but instead, it has become a tool for the wealthy and well-connected", says Warren in the video. Warren announced her plans to launch an exploratory committee for president in a video shared online early Monday morning.

Aside from Harvard Law School, Warren has held positions at the University of MI, the University of Texas School of Law and the University of Houston Law Center. A video released Monday announcing her move notes the economic challenges facing people of colour along with images of a women's march and Warren's participation at an LGBT event. She later elaborated on the theme in an exchange with reporters outside her Cambridge, Massachusetts, home.

The move will help her raise funds and hire more staff early in the campaign cycle - an effort in which she already leads most other potential Democratic candidates. "So I'm in this fight all the way". Julian Castro, President Barack Obama's housing secretary, formed an exploratory committee this month.

Trump has been lambasting Warren since his 2016 campaign, when he began derisively labeling her "Pocahontas" in a shot against her claims of Native American heritage. "We do it together".

There is one person, however, who finds the whole idea of Warren's candidacy a joke: outgoing Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI).

Following the 2007-2009 global financial crisis, Warren emerged as a leading critic of Wall Street and continues to advocate for stiffer regulation and oversight, including reinstating a rule that would separate banks' retail business from their riskier investment banking activities.

It's an issue that top Democrats - most recently, billionaire philanthropist Michael Bloomberg - have signaled might finally be a campaign priority in 2020.

USA government shutdown could stretch to Thursday
The House and Senate gaveled into session for a few minutes on Christmas Eve before quickly closing again with no further action. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer voted for the Secure Fence Act, which passed the Senate on an 80-19 vote.

"Look, I'm in this fight because I understand what's happening to working families", she responded, not addressing her Native American heritage gaffe. "Give me a chance".

As a Harvard law professor, Warren focused on bankruptcy law and consumer protection. In 2017 she joined other senators in a proposal to extend the federal Medicare health insurance program for seniors to include everyone. "Warren has a lot of convincing to do", adding the same is true of many other Democratic contenders.

As talk of a possible run for the presidency grew, Warren has worked to build her foreign-policy credentials, taking a seat on the Armed Services Committee.

"Sen. Warren couldn't be more out of touch", Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement provided to LifeZette. The move was meant to rebut Trump's taunts of Warren as "Pocahontas".

Warren in October released a DNA analysis she said supported her assertion that she had Native American lineage.

There is only a passing reference to President Donald Trump and his administration in Warren's new video.
