Embiid also echoed Simmons' thoughts on the acquisition of Butler, saying he hopes the addition of the veteran catapults the Sixers into the NBA Finals.

Philly hopes to ink Butler to a long-term deal within the foreseeable future. Details of the trade are still being finalized.

After months of bickering and a poisonous locker room with his Minnesota Timberwolves, four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler has been granted his wish and is set to be traded to the 76ers.

Butler played in 10 of those games, averaging 21.3 points. He was named an All-Star for the fourth time in his career, made third team All-NBA and second team All-Defense.

Las Vegas oddsmakers immediately upgraded the 76ers' odds to win the National Basketball Association title from 20-1 to 10-1 and claim the Eastern Conference from 8-1 to 3-1.

Minnesota did okay in what was a shotgun deal after Butler dropped his trade request right before the start of camp (although I think Miami's Josh Richardson/first rounder offer was better).

Philadelphia's Jerryd Bayless, Justin Patton and a 2020 second-round draft pick will also be sent to Minnesota. On paper at least, Butler projects to be a solid on-court complement to both players, and if the three are able to gel, they could form one of the league's most potent trios.

However, negotiations can not commence until Butler opts out of the final year of his current deal. The Sixers will weigh Butler's physical condition and how he fits with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but they didn't give up such significant assets believing that this would be a rental situation.
