A second woman has reportedly accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, a charge that can further complicate the confirmation process of US President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

FILE PHOTO: U.S. Supreme Court nominee judge Brett Kavanaugh speaks during a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., September 4, 2018. She alleges that during a drinking game in college Kavanaugh and his group of friends plied her with alcohol before taunting the devout Catholic woman with a plastic penis. "This is a con game being played by the Democrats", Trump added.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called on McConnell to apologise to Ford "for labelling her allegations a 'smear job, '" adding, "I challenge you, Leader McConnell, if you are so convinced this is a smear campaign, you'll have no problem with an FBI investigation to prove your case".

Mr Kavanaugh said Dr Ford's friend does not remember being at a party with him, nor has anyone corroborated the accuser's story.

Trump, at the United Nations in NY, declared that Kavanaugh is "outstanding", and added, "I am with him all the way".

Democrats have accused Republicans of not conducting a thorough review in their rush to get Mr Kavanaugh confirmed.

Trump has also questioned the credibility of Ford, contending that if the alleged attack was so bad then she would have reported it to the law enforcement when the incident happened 36 years ago.

Kavanaugh has denied her allegations that he assaulted her at a party when they were in high school.

In his letter, Kavanaugh said that those who are alleged to have witnessed the two events say either that they have no recollection, or that they simply did not happen.

The former Sporting Lisbon and Porto playmaker has been included in Alan Shearer's Team of the Week as a result. If there was an award for the best bargain of the season, Moutinho would be the front-runner right now.

When pressed on why he described it that way, Hatch responded: "Because I know it is".

During the Fox interview, Kavanaugh said that while there were high school parties with beer and he wasn't flawless, "I'm a good person". Says he supports integrity of Debbie Ramirez, the 2nd accuser. I know my lifelong record, and I'm not going to let false accusations drive me out of this process.

Republicans on the Judiciary Committee do not expect, however, to be able to vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation until Friday at the absolute earliest.

Thursday - Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

The interview comes a day after another woman went public with a new set of sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh strongly denied that claim as a "smear". His family has suffered. Deborah Ramirez alleged in a story published by The New Yorker Sunday night that while she and Kavanaugh both attended Yale University in the early 1980s, he pulled down his trousers and exposed himself to her.

The roadblocks to confirming Brett Kavanaugh as a judge on the United States Supreme Court are mounting.

"The Senate simply can not in good conscience vote on this nomination without a full fair FBI investigation of all these allegations", he said.

The Kavanaugh controversy is unfolding just weeks before November 6 congressional elections in which Democrats are trying to take control of Congress from Republicans, against a backdrop of the #MeToo movement fighting sexual harassment and assault. Fox News is famously Trump's favorite news channel, a bond formalized in the summer with the appointment of the former Fox News co-president Bill Shine as deputy White House chief of staff.
