With Gold and Satyameva Jayate hitting the screens on Independence Day, we witnessed one of the biggest clashes of Bollywood so far.

"As per conventional trade wisdom, an Adult certificate for a film would mean an automatic drop in collections by 20%". The sports drama is inspired by real events during the 1948 Summer Olympics when India, as a free nation, won its first Olympic Gold Medal in field hockey. Apart from Gold and Satyameva Jayate, Ranbir Kapoor's highly successful Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju, Salman Khan's Race 3, and Tiger Shroff-starrer Baaghi 2 round up the top five opening day numbers.

"According to him, both films have the opportunity to make it big at the box office due to their release timings". But the Milap Zaveri-directed film has registered a "decent" total on Day 4 - Rs 7.25 crore - and the film's total collection now stands at Rs 40.75 crore, the report added.

On the brink: Woods electrifies in 2nd-place finish at PGA
The Florida native is now one of just 46 players in golf's history to have won three or more majors in their career. Woods' second place finish at the PGA Championship was his best finish in a major since the 2009 PGA Championship.

Gold has therefore become Akshay Kumar's best first day performer.

It seems like the national holiday has paid off for both Bollywood releases this year with Akshay Kumar's Gold and John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate together bringing in more than Rs 40 crore in net box office collections, besides the highest opening day figures for the two lead actors individually. Satyameva Jayate is on the fifth while Gold got the third biggest opening.

A report on Box Office India suggests that the Milap Zaveri directotial managed to rake in Rs 7.25 crore at the box office on day four of its release.
