Cavs in mix for Spurs' Leonard

20 June 2018

Kawhi Leonard recently requested that he be dealt by the San Antonio Spurs with Los Angeles - the Lakers more so than the Clippers - on top of his list of preferred destinations. Boston has young players like Jaylen Brown, Semi Ojeleye, and Terry Rozier they could trade. With two Defensive Player of the Year awards, he would significantly improve what was one of the league's worst defenses in 2018.

Where do you think Kawhi Leonard will be by the time the regular season begins?

The San Diego State product has played seven seasons with the Spurs since they tabbed him with the 15th overall pick of the 2011 draft, helping the team to the title and capturing Most Valuable Player of the National Basketball Association finals in 2014. But what makes them special is they've ignored the noise for 21 years!

The Express-News reported in late May that the team hoped to mend fences with its star and agree on the extension - which Leonard becomes eligible to sign on July 1 - sometime this offseason.

The Clips are reportedly willing to offer forward Tobias Harris and a draft pick for Leonard. Jayson Tatum is most likely untouchable in any trade talks. No other team can offer Leonard the contract.

Twitter reacts as Lionel Messi misses from the spot against Iceland
With what he said after the Iceland match and the fact he took the blame, you can expect a more engaged and eager club. Argentina face Croatia on June 21, before taking on Nigeria five days later, on June 26.

Their best shot to net Leonard is as a free agent on 2019, though the Spurs would be far pressed to let him go to a Western Conference rival for nothing. However, Leonard doesn't want to go to NY. However, it would be typical Knicks to take on a contract of another player who is injury prone. For the moment, Celtics' fans can celebrate being the favorite to land the superstar wing in at least one domain.

The fifth team that comes to mind is the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the case of the Atlanta Hawks, swapping Kent Bazemore and the number 3 overall pick for Kawhi Leonard gives the Hawks a piece to trade at the deadline and the Spurs an even better draft pick.

However, unlike the Celtics, the All-Star that the Cavs can offer has durability issues but has no major injuries to deal with.
