Kate Spade reportedly found dead

Kate Spade, the designer behind kate spade NY, has died at age 55 of a reported suicide.

The Associated Press reported Spade was found with a red scarf around her neck attached to a doorknob. Back in the '90s, it seemed that everyone who worked in the admissions office at New York University had a black Kate Spade purse - everyone except her.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America in a statement called Spade "a great talent who had an immeasurable impact on American fashion and the way the world viewed American accessories".

"Her new brand "Frances Valentine" is one of my favorites".

Spade, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, was known for her designs focused on working class women.

The famous designer commits suicide and leaves a 13 year old daughter.

The firm was bought out previous year by fellow NY designer Coach for a $2.4bn (£1.8bn). She was working as an accessories editor at Mademoiselle magazine when she launched her company with husband Andy in their NY apartment in 1993, based on six shapes of bags she thought every working woman needed.

"We are all devastated by today's tragedy", Kate's family said in a statement.

On social media, prominent figures mourned Spade's passing.

Chelsea Clinton wrote that it was her "first grownup bag" and said that she got it as a gift from her grandmother.
