Almost one month after launching iOS 11.3 to the public, Apple has unleashed a minor follow-up update. The new update, iOS 11.3.1, will reportedly fix this issue. As Apple explains in its release notes for the software, the update "addresses an issue where touch input was responsive on some iPhone 8 devices because they were serviced with non-genuine replacement displays". According to a report by ArsTechnica, this new update fixes two security vulnerabilities addressing a privilege elevation attack and how macOS High Sierra handles URLs.

Non-genuine replacement displays may have compromised visual quality and may fail to work correctly.

Apple recommends getting your iPhone repaired only at Apple-certified experts with genuine iPhone parts. So far iOS 11 is installed on 76 percent of devices, while iOS 10 is still running on 19 percent of iPhones and iPads. Third-party fix shops have speculated that the sensor issue pops up only because they are unable to obtain and use an Apple fix tool that tells the iPhone to accept replacement parts without complaint. To be more specific, the update disabled touch functionality on iPhone 8s that were fixed using third-party displays. The update can be downloaded over the air (OTA). The release also promises security improvements for iPhone and iPad. Also, it is recommended to back up your data before beginning the update process.

That doesn't mean Apple isn't still exceedingly profitable: The iPhone X and its premium price captured 35% of all smartphone profits in Q4 2017, and Apple made 90% of all smartphone profits over that time.

The app is available as a free download for iPhone and iPad with no in-app purchase required to unlock its full potential.
