PFA Player of the Year: Full shortlist ahead of tonight's awards

23 April 2018

Mohamed Salah, Egyptian National Team and Liverpool's forward, was included by the Professional Footballer's Association in the Premier League's Team of the Year.

The 22-year-old Germany worldwide Sane - who is the first player to win the PFA Young Player of the Year award and the Premier League title in the same season since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2007 - has scored nine goals and registered 12 assists this season under Pep Guardiola.

Salah, who beat out competition from Kevin de Bruyne and Harry Kane, is also the first Egyptian to win the award.

Manchester City's Sane won the young player prize, while Chelsea's Fran Kirby won the Women's Player of the Year award.

He has already matched the Uruguayan's best return across a Premier League campaign and is chasing down the Reds' record single-season haul of 47 achieved by Ian Rush in 1983-84. The votes determine PFA Player of the Year award, PFA Young Player of the Year award in addition to PFA Team of the Year award.

"I'd like to thank the manager, the backroom staff, and players here at City, and especially our fans who have supported me ever since I arrived in Manchester".

'I'm very happy about my award, I'm very happy about my team-mates for what we are doing in the Premier League and the Champions League'.

Salah has three fixtures remaining - against Stoke City, former side Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion - to surpass the mark hit by Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. "I'm very proud to win and I've worked very hard".

"It's been a fantastic ride but we still have games to go", Klopp said.

Nominees for the Young Player award must be 23 or younger at the start of the season.

Many expect Salah to win in what has been dubbed as the most prestigious award in English football and the list of finalists was announced last week.
