Mack, known for her role in the WB Television series "Smallville", was charged with sex trafficking and conspiracy in an indictment unsealed on Friday. The 35-year-old American actress pleaded not guilty Friday.
Ms Mack is accused of helping founder, Keith Raniere, of helping him to recruit women who were then exploited "both sexually and for their labour".
The group claimed to be a self-help program but actually was pyramid scheme where people were exploited "both sexually and for their labor, to the defendants' benefit", according to U.S attorney Richard P. Donoghue.
Raniere and Mack are each charged with multiple counts, and could face a minimum of 15 years in prison. Raniere was previously arrested on a complaint and ordered detained.
Last month (Mar18), NXIVM co-founder Keith Raniere was arrested in Mexico and extradited to the US on sex trafficking and forced labour counts, amid allegations suggesting he created a sub-group, called Dominus Obsequious Sororium (DOS), in which women were forced to perform sex acts for their male masters. There is no set date for his arraignment yet.
Angels hopeful Ohtani makes next start despite blister, will continue to hit
Ohtani has routinely been given the day off after he pitches, so we can expect he'll be out of the lineup Wednesday as well. He's been equally impressive at the plate, batting.367/.424/.767 with three home runs in only 33 plate appearances.
As a cult enthusiast, I chose to look into the story more and see what Mack and Raniere were actually accused of. According to the Times Union, Mack was with him when he was arrested. According to court documents, she forced her slaves to have sex and engage in sexual activities with Rainere, threatening them with the "damaging collateral" they were supposed to submit when they joined NXIVM. He is also accused of using nude photos to blackmail the females to remain in the organisation.
"Mack and other. masters recruited. slaves by telling them that they were joining a women-only organization that would empower them and eradicate purported weaknesses the NVIVM curriculum taught were common in women", prosecutors said.
Mack was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after being accused by two women of directing them to engage in sexual activity with Raniere (57) who allegedly gave Mack money and other benefits in return.
Mack played Chloe Sullivan in "Smallville", a show about the raising of Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas, before he became known as Superman. She also played a voice role in Amazon's animated series Lost in Oz. She denied accusations that she recruited women as sex slaves.
Last month, Kreuk said she left NXIVM before it began operating as a sex slave group. He also said that Mack and her "Smallville" co-star, Kristin Kreuk, were used as "poster girls for normalizing the group".
