President Donald Trump said Monday he will decide "probably by the end of today" on a US response to the apparent chemical weapons attack on Syrian civilians. Hostilities, including attacks on residential areas, civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, markets, schools ... have resulted in scores of civilians being killed or injured on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, Syria says it has invited the worldwide chemical weapons watchdog to send a fact-finding mission into the country to investigate a suspected poison gas attack near Damascus over the weekend. Moscow has cautioned the US not to launch a military attack.
In an Oval Office appearance with the emir of Qatar, Trump made no mention of his intentions in Syria.
The US draft was created to fail and thus "justify" unauthorized action in Syria, Russia's United Nations envoy said. "If you made a decision to carry out an illegal military endeavour, we hope that you will come to your senses".
Mr. Trump yesterday promised a rapid decision on action, as "we can not allow atrocities like that".
Vice President Pence will make the trip to the Summit of the Americas in Peru instead, Sanders said.
"I would once again ask you, once again beseech you, to refrain from the plans that you're now developing for Syria", he said after the council failed to approve a third draft resolution on chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said later Tuesday that Russia would submit a Security Council resolution proposing OPCW investigators be sent to probe the attack in Syria.

It has also consistently denied using chemical weapons over the course of the foreign-backed militancy, which gripped the country in 2011.
Emphatic in his condemnation of the apparent gas attack, Trump noted graphic pictures of the dead and sickened, calling the assault "heinous", "atrocious", "horrible" and "barbaric".
