Kirk Cousins deal has a no-trade, no-transition tag clause

17 March 2018

This deal averages $28 million per year, the highest in the NFL.

Cairo Santos has signed a one-year contract with the Jets, who were in need of a kicker after Chandler Catanzaro signed with Tampa Bay.

New Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will be formally introduced to the media Thursday afternoon after he officially signed with the team.

The Vikings began the day $50 million under their salary cap, according to NFL Players Association data, and the deal with Cousins will take up nearly half of that with the prospect of expensive extensions looming in the coming year for players such as linebackers Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks and wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Cousins is taking over a team that went to the NFC title game.

Cousins and Vikings general manager Rick Spielman both called it a "lifetime" contract. This wasn't going to be 2016, when Brock Osweiler signed with the Texans for $72 million without meeting head coach Bill O'Brien, and was traded a year later.

"As the salary cap continues to grow, that's just going to continue to change, " said Cousins, 29, who played the previous six seasons with Washington and will continue to wear No. 8. Per a source with knowledge of the deal, Cousins' contract has a no-trade clause.

The guarantee of the full value of the deal is unprecedented in the National Football League, where a variety of complex factors have kept players from receiving sure-thing contracts like their professional baseball, basketball and hockey peers. As long as he stays healthy throughout the summer, Cousins will also represent the eighth starting quarterback for a season opener in the past nine years.

Harvey Schwartz quits Goldman Sachs
Blankfein traveled the week after the board meeting and didn't have a chance to discuss the decision with the two executives. The business now ranks among the largest lenders to M&A buyers, and it reported record revenue past year .

Cousins said during Super Bowl week he also met with University of Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck for an hour-long chat. Which explains why the deal doesn't prevent the franchise tag. "I think more than anything it was a testament to the Wilf family on so many different levels. Humbled and honored that they would give the OK that".

A source said Cousins' contract includes $6 million of Super Bowl-related incentives.

"We had a really good season past year, " said Mark Wilf. The median was 17 points needed to win for the Vikings quarterbacks last season. "We want to continue to have those good seasons, winning divisions, winning championships, and that's our goal".

The Chiefs have agreed to a three-year, $7.5 million contract with Dustin Colquitt, who has one of the best punting careers in franchise history.

McCartney, though, stressed money isn't everything. On Monday, Julie Cousins actually ordered more than just a Vikings tie on Amazon-she bought a green one, too.

'Two things I kept saying to Kirk, " McCartney said.

"All I can do is what's right in front of me", Cousins said at a news conference at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan.
