The Georgia teacher arrested for barricading himself in a classroom and firing a gun reported an unfounded claim to police in 2016 that he was involved in a woman's death.
The teacher, later identified as social studies teacher Jesse Randall Davidson, 53, was taken into custody without incident about 30 to 40 minutes later. He also served as the play-by-play voice for Dalton football games, according to The New York Post.
He remains in Whitfield County jail in Dalton charged with aggravated assault with a gun, terroristic threats and acts, carrying a weapon in a school safety zone without a license, reckless conduct, disrupting a public school and possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. Nobody was injured from the gunshot, but one student hurt her ankle in the rush to get out of the school. Students were moved and part of the hallway was evacuated before police ultimately told them to clear out the entire school, the principal said.
Chastain said in an interview that Davidson himself had commented that arming teachers was a bad idea.
'I feel like there just shouldn't be guns at school at all, ' she said.
But when the staff began searching for him past year, the officer assigned to the high school contacted Hamilton Medical Center due to the teacher's "history of medical problems", he wrote in his report.
On Wednesday, Davidson allegedly barricaded himself in a classroom at Dalton High and would not allow students to enter the room.

Evidence does not seem to suggest that Davidson was trying to aim at anyone, according to Frazier.

Bartoo returned a short time later and put his key in the door 'and again he slammed the door before I could open it and he said, "Don't come in here, I have a gun"'.
"Anyone who knows him can tell you he's no danger", Tania Ramirez, a 10th grade student said.
It is unclear what caused theincident, but the teacher had been instructing a class right before it started, Frazier said.
Dalton is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Atlanta. "The campus, Dalton High School, is about a mile away from the police services center, and obviously we're near the heart of town, so a lot of officers were on scene very quickly", he said.
