Away from his favoured Hisense Arena where he draws energy from the raucous atmosphere, the 17th seed reined supreme in the tiebreaks, downing former finalist Tsonga 7-6 (5) 4-6 7-6 (6) 7-6 (5) on the floodlit centre court.
Kyrgios started well, breaking early on for a 3-1 lead in the first set, though it did not take Tsonga too long to break back to even up proceedings once again.
But the 22-year-old Australian was clinical, rifling through it to hold five match points before winning 7/2.
"He [Tsonga] is a great guy, a champion of the game, someone I looked up to as a kid", said Kyrgios afterwards.
"That's it. I lost it and I drive a little bit insane".
It's fair to say Jim Courier is probably the best on-court interviewer out there and he did a stellar job with Nick Kyrgios on Friday.
However, Kyrgios roared back in style to seal the deal as the Frechman hit the net on the first match point.
Kyrgios, who was fined $3,700 after his first round match for telling a fan to "shut the f*** up", said 'Well done, you're an idiot, ' to Zhu after the video stunt. "I have got a tough match against Grigor Dimitrov now. You want to just conserve as much energy as you can", he said.
Zac Efron as 'Extremely Wicked' Ted Bundy
Now, the former High School Musical star has shared the first look at himself as the notorious murderer - check it out below. Efron had three hit movies in 2017 including Baywatch , The Disaster Artist, and The Greatest Showman .
"I feel like my game helped me in the tiebreaker". I think he deserved to win also. but I was also courageous and I did my job at the end.
In among all the commotion Kyrgios was in a different class to the 65th-ranked Troicki, who has reached the round of 16 five times at Grand Slams.
A few new shots may have to be added to the clip after Wednesday's match.
Another said: "As if we don't see enough gambling advertisements, we now have Nick Kyrgios" brother acting as a human billboard in the player's box. I was kind of staring at him. Tsonga is usually consistent and one of the better servers in the game, but he struggled big time with his second serve and looked nonchalant at times. The American legend asked Kyrgios about a TV interview he did recently in which he said he'd like Will Smith to play him in a movie, if there was ever one made about the Aussie player's life.
This time previous year in the second round, Kyrgios was cruising against Andreas Seppi with a two sets to love lead, before capitulating and allowing the Italian to pull off a remarkable victory.
Whilst fourth seed Elina Svitolina came from a set down to overcome spirited Czech Katerina Siniakova 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. "I played a pretty good level in the tiebreak". I know what he's going to bring. Everybody knows what he will try to do, what I will try to do.
"There were a lot of distractions going out there today".
Dimitrov, who ended past year by winning the ATP Finals at the O2 Arena in London, has been in patchy form in the opening weeks of the new season and was again below his best as he beat Russia's Andrey Rublev 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
