Diesels have always been a popular option with buyers of heavy-duty trucks, like the Ford Super Duty line. It's the sixth engine choice for F-150 customers. The number would be the best in the competitive light-duty pickup segment. Customers who tow heavy loads over long distances will see the most benefit from the powertrain, according to Eckert, but its wide torque band could have a similarly wide appeal.
The Ford engine will be on display at the Detroit auto show, formally known as the North American International Auto Show, which opens to the public January 20.
Ford tested the new F-150 diesel along the Davis Dam in Arizona, finding that even with an ambient temperature in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the truck could climb 13 miles at a 6-percent grade with a consistent level of power output. But the addition of the new diesel option comes at a critical time.
Ford expects the move to resonate both with retail and commercial buyers. The engine is available on 4x2 and 4x4 trucks.
In Lariat trims, the diesel engine option brings the starting price of the truck to $44,685.
The diesel option will cost $2,400 more than a 3.5-liter EcoBoost, and $4,000 more than a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 when the order books open up in a few weeks.
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger to Serve 3-Match Ban After Misconduct Charge
The incident in question was when Calum Chambers was penalised for handball in the box by referee Mike Dean. Amazingly, that might not even be the last of the disciplinary action against Arsene Wenger .
The diesel will be priced from $54,600 on the F-150 King Ranch and $57,155 on the F-150 Platinum. The engine shares the same graphite iron block material and forged steel crank used in the 2.7-liter EcoBoost. Ford refrained from a specific on-sale date for the new diesel, other than "spring". It will also go on sale in Canada. The transmission is now available on the gas-powered F-150 and Expedition SUV. That shaved as much as 700 pounds off the weight of prior-generation F-150 models. Pollution-cutting technology such as automatic start-stop and exhaust gas recirculation come standard. It also has a maximum trailer tow rating of 11,400 pounds. The Blue Oval boys say the expect a 30 mpg highway rating from the EPA.
Ford equipped the truck with a 26-gallon fuel tank.
Ford has built millions of F-Series trucks over the years, but never one like this. But its Dagenham Engine Plant in Essex, England, where the engine is built, will be prepared to meet increased demand. The OEM called the 2018 F-150 with this latest engine "the most efficient F-150 towing machine ever".
The diesel F-150 is powered by Ford's only diesel V-6 - a 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbocharged engine that makes 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. "You get out on the road and swear you're driving a gas engine".
United States automaker giant Ford has announced that it will be launching a diesel version of its F-150 pickup truck, one of its most successful models.
Considering that Ford sold almost 900,000 F-150s in 2017, about 300,000 more than the Chevrolet Silverado, its nearest competitor, that would be no small feat.
