Apple Watch Series 3 brings Apple Music streaming to the wrist

The smart watch also allows consumers stream more than 40 Millions songs by linking it with Apple Music station, Beats One radio, and other platforms.

The highly rumored facial recognition sensor was also present as Apple introduced the Face ID security feature that ultimately replaced the Touch ID. Troughton-Smith claimed that the new Apple TV 4K will be powered by a 3-core A10X Fusion processor, the same system on a chip that's powering the iPad Pro 10.5-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch. EE is the sole carrier confirmed for the United Kingdom, though Apple said more are coming.

The Apple Watch comes with an on-board speaker, so now finally Siri can talk back.

There's a new gold aluminium colour in addition to silver or space grey aluminium, and of course there's stainless steel and ceramic versions at higher prices.

This morning, at an event taking place at Apple's Cupertino headquarters, the company announced that the new generation of Apple TV will be capable of streaming 4K and HDR content (HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, which translates into superior brightness/darkness in the images on the screen).

In my time with watchOS 4 on the Series 3, I found it to be, visually, a lot kinder to the eyes too, with better contrast and easier-to-read text, something my ageing, probably-need-bifocals eyes appreciate.

While Apple has resolutely refused to reveal sales figures for its smartwatch, Tim Cook said during today's keynote that Apple Watch sales have grown 50 per cent, year on year. The series 1 only gets 6.5 hours. While most people already had a hunch about the products included on September 12's program, there were still some details that did not quite correspond to earlier speculations. The tech giant is expanding its health monitoring features of the Apple Watch.

One of the early rumours about the Series 3 is that it's going to be much thinner (although, that's now looking unlikely), with the haptic motor moved to the strap - that's based on (again, unlikely).

He said "The Apple Watch is created to help people stay active and motivated so they can have a better day".

Having added a new processor, an eSIM and wireless capabilities, you'd think the new Series 3 is bulkier. It looks exactly like the previous version save for the red crown.

Jon Cox, an analyst at Kepler Cheuvreux weighed in by saying that "The fact the new watch is untethered from the phone has the potential to be a game changer".
