Oklahoma Face Difficult Road Test Against Ohio State

08 September 2017

In the opening weekend of college football, Michigan's matchup with Florida put the Wolverines in the national spotlight. No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners.

Last season, Ohio State vs. Oklahoma was one of the most anticipated games on the schedule and it ended in a 45-24 win for the Buckeyes. When the Hoosiers found the looks they were hoping for from Ohio State's defense, they exploited them a couple of times. Of course. Should they be?

Oh, one other thing might be at stake. No matter what happens, certain fan bases will always hate certain teams, and that's exactly how it should be. But if OU can't get the win - or takes another ugly loss - then an undefeated Big 12 schedule might not make up the difference in the end. Ohio State will be the talk of the country, but it's actually the best long-term scenario for the Wolverines. Mayfield is only the 18 two-time top-10 finisher in the vote to return for another season of college football. That couldn't be further from the truth. The game between the two top flight universities is scheduled for Saturday, September 9th at 7:30 p.m. EST.

The Buckeyes are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games in September. No big deal, right?

Instead Ohio State's secondary with new corners Kendall Sheffield and Damon Arnette, and new safeties Jordan Fuller and Erick Smith must bounce back from the 400-plus passing yards (and two tight end touchdowns) IN had last week and try to shut down the Mayfield-Andrews connection. Wisconsin's Troy Fumagalli (seven catches, 84 yards) had a nice game against Ohio State in 2016. Early results for the embattled league weren't encouraging.

During his Monday press conference, he responded to the question "Do you lose sleep over Ohio State" with a classic: "I don't lose sleep over anybody". Much like in 2014, it would be a non-conference loss early in the year. MI is 6-2 SU and ATS in its last eight games in Week 1. He's played in big games, home, neutral and on the road. Four of the last five games in this matchup have gone under.

"I don't think we were urgent at that point in time past year", Brown said. He led the team with nine sacks a year ago. Grier was the Big 12 leader the first week with 423 total yards against Virginia Tech, completing 31 of 53 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns while running for 52 yards in a tough loss.

He has led a team of two helicopters that have conducted search-and-rescue missions, supply drops and general support. The massive Chinook helicopters have two engines, two sets of rotors and a loading ramp in the back.

Once again, the only Group of Five team in the Top 25 is USF, which dropped from No. 19 to No. 21.

Despite trailing in the third quarter in Bloomington, Ohio State barely had to adjust its offensive game plan.

In earning his trip to NY past year, Mayfield became the 59 player to finish in the top five of the Heisman race twice. The Wolverines beat Colorado, Wisconsin and Penn State, which turned out to be double-digit win teams.

But Campbell, whose six catches in Ohio State's opening win at in included a 74-yard touchdown, also acknowledges that players know when the stage is bigger. "It's one of the bigger ones in the year for us, but you can't treat it any differently".

College football is built on a foundation of irrational fanhood and hatred between rivals.

"Just fun to see this team get off to a great start", Riley said.

"We just need to keep getting him the ball", said quarterback Baker Mayfield.
