Family of Six Drowns Fleeing Hurricane Harvey Floods

31 August 2017

The driver of the van, Sammy Saldiver, was able to escape but not save anyone else when the van was engulfed Sunday, the paper reported.

Ric Saldivar said the Harris County Sheriff's Office told him his brother was stuck in the water for 45 minutes.

Officers found a man clinging to a tree and used a rope to rescue him.

Two bodies were found in the van, and dive teams were making their way through murky water in a wooded area to inspect the white, cargo-type van for more remains, he said.

Sammy's brother Ric said water "picked up" the vehicle and sent it plunging into a stream.

The four children and their great-grandparents were trying to make the journey from their home to another family member's home when they were caught in floodwaters at the intersection of Green River Drive and John Ralston Road, Ashley Hiser-Jackson, a California-based relative, told BuzzFeed News.

He could either spend the season on IR or he could reach an injury settlement with the Giants and try to land with another team. The Giants' offense is McAdoo's baby, so this is the last thing he wants and it's what he plans all offseason to avoid.

"No sleep & anxiety, please let this pass sooner", Devy Saldivar, 16, wrote on Facebook around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Six members of the same family are believed to be dead after their van was swept away in floodwaters caused by Tropical Storm Harvey over the weekend, Houston-area television station KHOU reported Monday. Ric Saldivar is the uncle of the four children.

He approached a waterlogged bridge over Greens Bayou and wanted to turn around. The storm, and the massive deluge of rains that it has brought, have inundated the city of Houston with floods the like of which officials say they haven't seen before. Moments later, the van was gone, submerged underneath the fast current. He told the trapped children to escape from the van's back door, but they were not able to, according to KHOU.

Local authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment and have not yet confirmed the incident.

"They went to heaven holding hands".
