Still, Marrone isn't ready to name his regular-season starter for September 10 at Houston just yet. Chad Henne will start at quarterback for the Jaguars instead of starter Blake Bortles. Bortles completed 12-of-16 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Henne got the start over Bortles during the team's third preseason game and many assumed that the job would be his.
Bortles has started the last 45 regular season games for the Jaguars, but a terrible start to the 2017 preseason following his downturn in 2016 led Doug Marrone to bench him in favor of Chad Henne for the third preseason contest.
He amped up his workload this week in preparation for the team's third exhibition, quite possibly the only action he'll get in the preseason. In the Jaguars' 24-23 loss at EverBank Field, Henne didn't do enough to put the quarterback battle to bed.
After the Saturday morning announcement, we now project Henne for just 279.8 yards, 1.3 touchdowns and 1.1 interceptions on 41.7 attempts in 2017.
"I am excited because (Thursday) will be an opportunity to see (Newton) out there with all the different players we brought in, all the different playmakers we believe we have", Rivera.

Andrew Schneck, 25, was charged with attempting to maliciously damage or destroy property receiving federal financial assistance . Federal authorities said one of two tubes on the devices contained nitgroglycerin and hexamethylene triperoxide diamine.
Henne has thrown 58 touchdown passes and 63 interceptions in 65 career games. "Whatever you want to call it, I'm still trying to evaluate who the best person is at that position".
Asked how he thought the quarterback competition would turn out this upcoming week, Bortles said he had no idea. It is expected that both Bortles and Henne will get extensive playing time against Carolina's top defense. "I met with both quarterbacks afterwards". "I think there's just one out there where maybe I just probably throw the ball away. I think it's a mental thing now". Bortles has started every Jaguars regular-season game since Week 4 of his 2014 rookie season.
"I kind of look at it the other way".
With what we've seen from training camp and the preseason, Blake Bortles doesn't seem to have corrected the issues that have plagued him as a starter in the NFL.
