Flood situation improves, total death toll 123

In the northern Indian state of Bihar, floods have killed 56 people since Sunday and affected more than six million, said Anirudh Kumar, additional secretary in the state Disaster Management Department. Reports of grievances also coming from several districts for alleged poor distribution of relief to the affected people and looting of ration was also came in from several distribution centres.

In Assam, flood related death toll has risen to 40. Heavy rainfall and floods have led to the death of 102 people till August 14.

Flood situation in Bihar and Assam continues to be grim and alarming.

Reports said flood waters have submerged NH-104 in Sitamarhi, NH-31 in Kishanganj and NH-327 in Araria.

Sonowal will also request the Prime Minister to involve neighbouring states and Bhutan for hammering out a permanent solution to Assam's flood problem. In West Bengal, 11 NDRF teams are engaged in rescue and relief operations and today four additional teams are being airlifted from NDRF base Arrakonam to the State.

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that Prime Minister Modi was himself keeping a close watch on the flood situation in Bihar and he also apprised Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh of the situation during the day.
