With a full count, Springer deposited the Masahiro Tanaka offering into none other than Monument Park and the newly mounted Jeter display plaque.

"The Captain" will go down in history. Jeter was joined on Sunday by his pregnant wife, 27-year-old model Hannah Jeter.

Springer never technically shared a field with Jeter - he was a rookie in 2014 but was injured when the Yankees and Astros played - but he has talked to Beltran and McCann about The Captain. "Thank the Good Lord for making Jeter a Yankee", said one. A recording played of PA announcer Bob Sheppard introducing Jeter, who then took the mic. The days of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera have now turned into the days of Aaron Judge, Gary Sánchez, and Dellin Betances, all of which, would have trouble in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the visiting Houston Astros. "There isn't a person or player I would trade places with - that played now, or ever". Eventually nothing is next because youre retired, but we all had those same mindsets and thats why I think we had success.

During Jeter's remarks - which he later said were off the cuff - he emphasized how thankful he was. Asked about reports he is part of a group trying to buy the Miami Marlins, Jeter said: "There's nothing to report, absolutely nothing". I'm unprepared. From what people have told me, you just do it and see what happens. He wasn't the most talented player, both offensively and defensively, but for some reason, you wanted the ball hit to him and you wanted him to be at the plate. Competitors respected him, managers coveted him. It has been done many times and Monument Park has that Hall of Fame look.

Cavaliers' new jerseys will have Goodyear sponsorship patches
The Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz all plan to wear corporate patches next season. While on-jersey logos are relatively new in North American sports, they've been part of European soccer for years.

Clippard spent 2008-14 with Washington so he only faced Jeter once, but it's an at-bat he'll never forget. I learned that time flies.

"What do you say besides thank you?" he said after the ceremony. Literally, I didn't know what to say besides that you.

Prior to tonight's game against the Houston Astros, the Yankees retired Jeter's jersey, joining the likes of Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, and Babe Ruth.
