Lawton believers celebrate National Day of Prayer

Truman signed a bill proclaiming a National Day of Prayer must be declared by each following president at an appropriate date of his choice.

A nation and community facing challenges in government, business, churches, families, education and the military was the subject of prayer Thursday as Greencastle-Antrim added its petitions to a National Day of Prayer. The church will be open from 7 a.m.to 7 p.m. with prayer guides available. Abraham Lincoln also had a proclamation for a day of "humiliation, fasting and prayer" in 1863.

Local ministers and others offered prayers for different segments of the nation and the community. "I came years ago when it was down at the courthouse", the Bowling Green woman said when asked why she came.

This will be Quincy's 23rd official National Day of Prayer celebration.

After the introductions, local pastors an church representatives led prayers in small groups.
