The Senate confirmed former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue as secretary of agriculture on Monday.
While governor of Georgia, Perdue had some similarities to the ethics concerns now dogging Trump - including promises to crack down on alleged corruption in the state capitol of Atlanta which were belied by his refusal to step down from ownership or managerial roles in four farming businesses.
He also visited Cuba, China and South America as part of several trade missions aimed at growing exports for Peach State farmers.
Other agriculture-related issues that may be addressed during the review include agricultural trade, regulator reform, rural investment and infrastructure, the Farm Bill and agricultural labor.
"NPPC and America's pork producers look forward to working with Secretary Perdue". Trump has proposed a 21 percent cut in USDA programs and has harshly criticized some worldwide trade deals, saying they have killed American jobs.
The Senate confirmation vote came after very little debate on the floor Monday.
Perdue will also be part of the administration's response to a dispute with Canada's dairy industry, which has a new lower-priced classification of milk product that Trump says is harming USA producers in dairy states like Wisconsin and NY.Читайте также: Woman Charged With Human Smuggling At US-Canada Border
Trump will sign the executive order after a meeting with 15 farmers from across the country, including Zippy Duvall, the president of the American Farm Bureau; Bill Northey, the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture; and Lisa Johnson Billy, a farmer and former Oklahoma House member. This is not, however, the same family as runs Perdue Farms, the large poultry company.
NCC Chairman Ronnie Lee said, "Sonny Perdue is highly qualified to lead USDA and he can help ensure a strong and viable agricultural and rural economy", said Ronnie Lee, chairman of the National Cotton Council.
Georgia U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson voted in favor of Perdue's nomination.
"There have been 30 secretaries of agriculture since the job was created in 1889 and though some were raised on a farm, only two actually lived and worked in agriculture as adults", the letter added.
Earlier in the day, Sonny Perdue was confirmed to be the next US Secretary of Agriculture by the US Senate.
" 'I know he will put the needs of farmers, ranchers and others in rural America first, ' Roberts said". I've heard time-and-time again that costly and hard-to-understand regulations have and are endangering the ability of our producers to stay in business.
"Secretary Perdue knows agriculture; I think he'll do well as agriculture secretary", Maschhoff says.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
