Northern Irishman McIlroy, who replaced Day as world No.2 two this week, will play Gary Woodland on Thursday and Argentine Emiliano Grillo on Friday.

Defending champion Jason Day has conceded his match to Pat Perez - after six holes. He brought her to OH in the last month for more tests, hopeful that surgery would lead to a chance for a recovery.

"That was a good day", Kjeldsen said.

"At the start of the year, she was diagnosed with 12 months to live", Day said at a press conference.

"I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for her", Day said.

The normal style of golf takes a bit of a break this week, as the world's best get ready for some match play action with the World Golf Championships in Austin.

Roy Keane on Mourinho: 'I'm sick to death of him'
Every other country gives its support to teams playing in Europe but I don't think the Premier League gives an "S". We just had a look at some of the cup draws they've had, and they've had an easy ride in the cup.

The 29-year-old lost his father to stomach cancer when he was just 12 years old. "I've already gone through this once with my dad".

The par-four next was halved in threes as both peppered the pin with their second shots, and Kjeldsen's wedge game continued to fire at the long 16th as he knocked his third in close and McIlroy missed from 15 feet to slip one down. I'm going to do my best and try to be there the best I can for her, because she's the reason why I'm playing golf today. And I know my mum says not to let it get to me, but it really has. I just need some time away with her to make sure it goes well. Spieth is top-seeded in his group again and Wednesday will open with unheralded 38-year-old Hideto Tanihara of Japan, who has 14 victories in his career but is playing in the event for the first time and in only his second World Golf Championship, having tied for fifth in the 2006 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

Johnson is the No. 1 seed for the first time in Match Play, which starts Wednesday at Austin Country Club.

Day lives near Columbus, Ohio, where he met his wife when he was on the Nationwide Tour as a teenager trying to get his PGA Tour card. The good news? It's not single elimination like it was in 2013, and McIlroy still has two more matches to try to win his group.

He said the mass in her mother's lung was 3 to 4 centimeters. The surgery is scheduled for Friday. He's played in eight events this year, making the cut in only half of them. Played well last week to finish top 5 and lost in the semi finals here last season to an inspired Jason Day - has had matchplay success in the past.
