US Attorney for the District of New Mexico Damon Martinez Resigns

12 March 2017

Although it is customary for the 93 U.S. attorneys to leave their positions when a new President enters the office, the changes do not usually happen all at once.

Friday evening, the law enforcement official said, Bharara told his section chiefs that he'd yet to submit the requested letter and may instead challenge Sessions to fire him.

"I did not resign", he said. "Moments ago I was sacked", Bharara tweeted Saturday using his recently created personal account.

Numerous federal prosecutors who were nominated by former President Barack Obama have already left their positions, but the almost four dozen who stayed on in the first weeks of the Trump administration have been asked to leave "in order to ensure a uniform transition", Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said. According to Bharara, Trump asked him during a meeting at his Manhattan tower in late November to stay on as a US Attorney.

Tim Purdon, a former USA attorney for North Dakota in the Obama administration, recalled that President Barack Obama permitted Bush appointees to remain on until their successors had been appointed and confirmed.

He has successfully prosecuted over a dozen state lawmakers, Democrats and Republicans alike.

The OECD noted, however, that expectations for company earnings in the US and Europe have not been revised up on the whole. The OECD is also anxious financial markets are overestimating the current health of developed economies.

The order to fire Bharara came down from the president, and Schumer anxious that Trump was "interrupting ongoing cases and investigations and hindering the administration of justice."To further muddy the political waters, the AP reported that Bharara's office is "investigating the financial terms of settlements of sexual-harassment claims against Fox News by its employees".

His office is now investigating allegations that Mayor de Blasio's office performed favors for campaign donors, as well as a case against a top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. "The Attorney General has now asked the remaining 46 presidentially appointed US attorneys to tender their resignations in order to ensure a uniform transition". "This saddens me because many of these people are great public servants and now they are being asked to leave".

The federal attorney's firing capped a standoff with the Trump administration that started when Bharara refused the White House order to resign.

"I think it's very unprofessional and I'm very disappointed", he said.

"I gotta write that (resignation) letter".
