Offense choppy, Packers D gets to Giants in 23-16 win

17 October 2016

New York Giants' Odell Beckham catches a pass during the first half of an NFL football game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, in Green Bay, Wis.

The notable moments helped the Packers overcome a so-so game from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who went 23 of 45 for 259 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and provided help to a defense that was down its top two cornerbacks. Green Bay converted four third-down plays and scored on Rodgers' 2-yard touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson, who stumbled out of his break but caught the ball while falling to the turf.

But the offense was mired by uncharacteristic drops, and couple of big plays were called back by penalties. Manning was able to connect with Odell Beckham snap the star wide receivers streak of five games without a touchdown.

"I thought our defense just really keeping them out of the end zone and especially with the field position (was good)", Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. He was my guy, so I just ran to the other side, too. NY struggled to get a pass rush. "We played some good teams these past two weeks, and we have to take a hard look at the tape and get better from it quick". Mason Crosby kicked three field goals, including two in the fourth quarter.

If you were among the faithful who believed it's OK for a team with Super Bowl aspirations to be up and down early in the year while seeking its identity, then you were likely OK with Aaron Rodgers & Co.'s inconsistency and you felt pretty good about how the Packers' uneven performance still improved their record to 3-1 on the year and handed the Giants their third consecutive loss.

Their 2-0 start is a distant memory after Sunday night's 23-16 loss in Green Bay. In a game where he had multiple shots down the field, including four big chances in the first half, Manning consistently failed to deliver balls with touch. "Every week we are trying to get better and get in that good groove so that four quarters put it all together". Kenny Clark recovered for the Packers with 1:15 left at the Giants' 31.

A team of journalists argued that this loss would be enough for Trump to have legally avoided paying taxes for the past 18 years. Remember, this is the candidate who said: "My tax plan is going to cost me a fortune".

The Packers struck first with a 16-play, game-opening drive that consumed nearly nine minutes. The acrobatic receiver had only 23 yards during the Giants' Week 4 road defeat in Minnesota. "We need to complete the ball more".

While Rodgers grinded to give Green Bay enough with his arm and legs, Manning was awful until late in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach. Lacy finished with 81 yards on 11 carries, including nine carries for 77 yards in the first half.

On the subsequent drive, however, Rodgers fired a pass to Nelson that bounced off the receiver's hands and was picked off by Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins. After the game, Lacy was able to walk off the field on his own power and he said that he should be ready to go when the Packers take on the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday. He caught 9 passes for 108 yards on the night.

Beckham finished with five catches for 56 yards as the Giants offense struggled again. It wasn't the case on Sunday Night, when each team committed a turnover or two. It turned a potential 14-13 game at halftime into a solid 17-6 Packers lead. During his first two seasons in the National Football League, he averaged a touchdown a game. Linebacker Kyler Fackrell, a third-round draft pick, forced a fumble after sacking Eli Manning on second-and-10 from the Giants 39.

Beckham was targeted 12 times by quarterback Eli Manning, but pulled in less than half.
