Report says Patriots RB Dion Lewis needs another knee surgery

22 August 2016

Lewis, the dynamic running back who burst onto the scene a year ago, needs a second knee surgery, according to The Boston Globe's Jim McBride.

New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis will need a second knee surgery to fix his torn ACL, a league source told the Boston Globe's Jim McBride. The Patriots have also been without second-year guard Tre' Jackson (on the physically unable to perform list), and veteran guard Jonathan Cooper, who suffered a foot injury early in training camp and has not been spotted at practice since.

Lewis, who tore his ACL last November 8, has been held out of the preseason thus far, but the team had hoped to have him ready for the season opener. In his first game after signing the contract, a 30-6 win over the Cowboys, Lewis rushed six times for 34 yards and caught eight passes for 59 yards and a touchdown.

The past few seasons have been tumultuous injury-wise for New England Patriots right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, and that notion remains unchanged heading into the 2016 campaign. He has played just seven games since 2012, all of which came last season with the Patriots.

For starters, the team will be without quarterback Tom Brady for the first four games of the regular season. The Globe reports that Mason's broken hand will keep him out an undisclosed period.
